There are a number of hands on mission opportunities at St. Paul Church. We support Habitat for Humanity in the York, and a more localized home ministry called Servants. Servants will make repairs on homes in Manchester, Mt. Wolf, and in the townships surrounding the boroughs. We have had trips to Red Bird Mission and recently our youth had their first work camp, working with Group in Pittsburgh. Some in the congregation have been a part of Helping Hands, where we feed people in York who are hurting for funds and food. Then there is the Northeast Clothing Bank, which is an ecumenical ministry, but its roots and most of its officers and volunteers are a part of the St. Paul congregation.
Hands on Ministry, meeting needs in the name of Jesus is a tremendous way to show the love of God in very practical ways. It is also one of the best ways for us to move closer to God by offering our gifts, talents, and time for the benefit of God’s people. And so often it is heard that those serving God get a lot more out of the encounter than those being served. If you are looking for a place to use your hands and heart to serve others, this is a place for you.
In addition to ministries of service, we also support missions financially, including missionaries in Mexico, Central Asia, and New Zealand. We support the Northeastern Food Bank and the Northeastern Clothing Bank. More recently, commitments have been made to the York Urban Ministry Initiative, and the Central Conference Pension Initiative. The CCPI help provide badly needed funding for retired pastors in foreign lands, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. We are a congregation that recognizes the help and support that the Lord has given us collectively and individually. Now we hear and response to the call to reach out and give to others. |
